For those who want to scratch build their own 3 aspect signal heads. This is the exact same LED package the we use in all of our APC style signals and includes three 3mm high intensity LEDs and all APC circuitry.  THe LEDs used in our signal heads are very bright and visable in direct sunlight outdoors.

Wired  24V common anode, supplied with 18" long leads. 5/16" OD , fits in a 3/8" OD brass tube.

Enlarge the first thumbnail to see a finished bug, all components are located inside the heat shrink behind the LEDs. Package leads may be bent to 90 degrees to facilitate installation in signal head.  Enlarge the second thumbnail to see a naked bug (before the final insulation is installed).

Options

Signal heads are available with bugs as an option.  Choices include:

None Just the bug, no head included.  The first two photos below show bug detail, click to enlarge.

Separate signal head  We include an empty brass and steel signal head complete with body and target, you attach the head to your signal pole or structure and load the APC bug.  If you're going to braze or solder the head, do so before loading the bug!   These heads should be sealed for outdoor use,  see our signal kits 'how to' for materials and details.  The third photo below shows the signal head included in this option. The target and hood are painted black and the body is silver.

Pre-assembled signal head  We mount the bug in a finished signal head, silver body, black target, fully sealed.  You mount the head on your signal pole or structure.  Note! Do not braze or solder, the bug can't take the heat, you must use an adhesive to attach the head to the pole.  Leads exit the head at 90 degrees.
