Our kits consist of machined and brazed brass signal frames, rough finished and unpainted but fully assembled with signal heads, targets and ladders installed. You also get the fully wired APC LED 'bugs' with 18 inch leads and the brass ground mount. You install the bug(s), seal the back of the signal head and finish the signal in the colors of your choice. Given their nature, dwarfs do not have ladders or targets, just the body and hood, a ground mount is included with dwarfs as well.

These are the exact same parts that we use in our finished signals. Why are we offering these kits? Well we feel that there is an unfortunate lack of kits in the garden railway market and we know that lots of folks might like to roll their own but may not have the skills or tools for the metal working or the electronic bits. We have those things so we do that part and let you do the rest. It saves us labor and as a result you save 10% to 20% off the price of our finished signals.

To finish the signals you will need a small file to smooth off the rough bits, a pair of small needle nose pliers to help install the bugs and something to seal the back of the signal. We recommend a zero shrink epoxy based modeling compound like Apoxie for that task. You may also want to seal the LEDs from the front with a clear casting resin or hard setting clear gel. And of course you will need an exterior grade paint in the colors of your choice.

The electronic packages (the bugs) are 100% assembled and tested, all you need is the patience to insert them into the signal. This is simple for a single, takes a bit more doing for a double and is a challenge for a three head but something anyone can master with a bit of practice (helpful hint, work from the top head down). There is no metal work or soldering required. Available in either 12 or 24 VDC versions.

Signal kits have a 10 day lead time.  Large orders (5 or more) may take a bit longer.
